Introduction to the 777X

The Boeing 777X is the newest of the famous 777 Family launched in November 2013. It will become the largest and most fuel efficient twin engine aircraft ever built with up to 10 percent lower operating costs when compared to similar aircraft. There will be two main variants of the aircraft, the 777-8X and the 777-9X. The 777-9X will have the lowest operating cost per seat of any commercial airplane. The 777-8X will have an amazing range of up 9,300 nautical miles with seats able to accommodate 350 passengers; this will provide direct competition for the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. While the 777-9X will accommodate over 400 passengers with range of 8,200 nautical miles. Production is expected to begin in 2017 and the aircraft’s first delivery is due for 2020.

The 777X the most advance and innovative technologies and become the most fuel-efficient aircraft ever built. The GE9X engine that will be used on the aircraft will be 5% more efficient than any other competing engine. The initially proposed engine was to have a fan diameter of 325 centimetres which is the same as the one on the GE90-115B about of giving of 443 kN of thrust per engine for the 777–9X and 777–8XL, and 88,000 390 kN for the 777–8X. Competitors such as Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney also put forward concept ideas for the 777X which included the RB3025 concept, and an adjustment of PW1000G to generate greater thrust. After being announced as the supplier of the engines for the 777X GE updated the engine’s specifications to generate greater power at 450 kN per engine from the 777-8X and 470 kN for the 777–9X and 777–8XL. The fan diameter was also increased to 335 centimetres making it the largest engine General Electric has ever made. Furthermore, the 777X will have longer wings with raked wingtips making it provide greater fuel efficiency. This increased fuel efficiency will drive down the environmental impact as less fuel consumed means less fuel released to the atmosphere. The aircraft also takes technology from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner adding to its flight control systems and flight equipment giving it greater reliability.

In addition to its unmatched efficiency and performance, the 777X will also provide a wonderful passenger experience with larger widows, enhanced lighting and a wider more spacious cabin. The state of the art interior and technology will provide passengers with the ultimate comfort.

Boeing has already received many large orders, beginning 34 aircraft commitments from Lufthansa in September 2013 and massive orders at the Dubai Airshow with Emirates ordering 150 aircraft worth $56 Billion. At the time of finalization Emirates had an outstanding order of 208 777 aircraft from Boeing. In addition they also received an order of 50 from Qatar and 25 from Etihad. We look forward to 2020 when we will be able to witness and experience these state of the aircraft by ourselves.
